Following find a bit of information relating to Douglas Makori and his life caring for those he took home from the streets of Kisii and nearby in Kenya. Douglas was born 26 Jun 1989. He is 27. He lives in a small house in Ritare Village with his wife Damaris and newborn daughter Kay, and 28 orphans.
Douglas Makori married Damaris Osoro on 3 Aug, 2013. He said by agreement of their parents each pledged themselves to wed the other and so it was done. Douglas father and mother are Kennedy Makori and Rusich Nyanchwaya. Damaris father and mother are Christopher Osoro and Evaline Osoro.
The recent birth of their daughter Kay Moraa Makori was on 29 Aug 2016 at Ogembo General Hospital, Level 5 in Ogembo Kenya.
I ask who were the first orphans taken into his care. Amazingly it was when he was still single, on 2 Feb 2013 Douglas heard of and acted on information from a shoe-shine man in Ogembo. It was how he found and met Moses Nyanchwaya, and no relation to his mother Rusich Nyanchwaya. Moses sister too was living on the street, her name is Susan Moraa, and though daughter Kay has Moraa as a middle name, there is no relationship. Their mother had recently died when Douglas reached out to them.
By the time he and Damaris married from 2 Feb 2013 to 3 Aug 2013, Douglas had taken in 25 children from the streets. Caring for orphans is sometimes a fluid, meaning, changing, situation. At the peak they were caring for some 40 kids. Lack of food from lack of funding, caused a crisis situation and some children left to be cared for elsewhere. It was even uncertain if Douglas and Damaris could continue at all.
I met Douglas on 1 Jun 2016, and my name is Bruce Dickey, narrator of this bio on Douglas. Douglas had 24 children on that date. It has since increased by four, plus the birth of Kay makes 29 children under roof. There are three others unpaid staff, yes, volunteers. You may meet the children under this link: https://msloogembo.wordpress.com/2016/08/26/meet-the-children/ Meet the Children page is a photo and their first names.
https://msloogembo.wordpress.com/2016/08/29/roster-of-orphans/ Here are the 24 children present on 1 Jun 2016. Four more have been added but are not yet on this roster. Moses Nyanchwaya is here and his sister Susan Moraa Sagana. The first two orphans Douglas Makori took into his care.
The unseen member of MSLO Ogembo is Jesus Christ. Jesus said where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in their midst. Ritare Fellowship Ministry is a registered self help group, giving credence to the existance of the church nearby, just 50 meters away. Douglas is pastor of this small poor band of Christian folk. They rough it here in Kenya much like my grandparents did before electricity. They use oil lamps. And before running water, the kids carry water from a nice clean creek just East of the Itare Primary school where most attend. So Jesus is here, and he is the reason that MSLO Ogembo exists, to care for the poor needy children in his area, that is Douglas mission, and to preach the Savior of MY SAVIOR Orphanage, Jesus the Nazarene. Thanks Douglas we appreciate what you are doing and pray for your success. bd
Ritare Fellowship Ministry was recognized by the Kenyan Department of Social Services. It was registered on 11 Dec 2011 in the Gucha District. And is signed by Wycliffe N. Wangwe, the District Social Development Officer.
