Donate

Donate for food at My Savior Lives Orphanage near Ogembo Kenya.  These funds provide food and other necessities to 17 orphans, one Makori child a newborn, three full time volunteer staff and a few other part time helpers to the MSLO orphans.  Thank you so much.  If you need additional information please Message me on Facebook or FB Messenger my least expensive way to communicate, Douglas Makori with my wife Damaris, orphanage mom and dad, and pastor to nearby small Kenyan Christian church.  MSLO Orphanage is not a 501 c3.  Most individuals automatically deduct more using standard deduction on USA taxes than they would meeting 501 c3 itemization.  You would have to give over $12,600 married or $6,300 single or married filing separately to benefit taxwise as of 2016 1040 form.

Five ways to Send Funds:*

1.  Wave.com uses any bank debit card (mine looks like a Visa Card, but has the word Debit) to send using Wave.com APP to Safaricom MPesa in Kenya.  Costs 4%.  Download the Wave APP to your phone, wherever you get your APPs and use a bank card debit to fund the transfer.  Wave does not hold your cash, it is sent instantly.  Average cost is 4%.  Wave personnel will communicate via text to walk you through simple setup.  Setup Wave during business hours into the evening and they are available.   Wave is based out of New York for time of day there.  Use the name:

Douglas Makori and his number in Kenya +254 715 335889

To gain confidence in Wave operation:  You may send only a few dollars to test the system, as there is no charge except the exchange rate.  Douglas does not have to leave the orphanage to receive funds.

2.  Paypal funds to bdickey@suddenlink.net  4.3% average cost USA.  Takes a few days usually. Douglas gave up trying to receive PayPal in Kenya, it’s always problematic and he has to walk 50 minutes each way to Ogembo to retrieve funds.  So we are using PayPal a different way.  Send PayPal, a USA or UK sender to a USA receiver.  Notice the PayPal name is mine:  Bruce Dickey.  I have been feeding orphans in Kenya for 4.5 plus years.  Recently I also received PayPal from a UK donor.  What we are doing now with PayPal if anyone wants to utilize it, is send to USA email above.  I will withdraw into MSLO Orphanage Funds Account set up at Arvest Bank, Russellville AR, then these funds are forwarded 100% via WAVE.  Wave charges 4% roughly.  By combining Paypal and Wave payment we reach fees totalling 8.3%.  No Walking for Douglas.!!!

3.  Western Union or MoneyGram  to Douglas Makori in Kenya.  12% average cost.  Takes a few minutes to appear in Kenya using Money in Minutes.  Tried and true, you only need Douglas Makori and Kenya to send at any WU kiosk.  Grocery store customer service will often have dedicated machines for WU making it possible to send in ten minutes, five minutes once the info is available to pull up on return visits.  Remember a donation by Western Union or MoneyGram requires Douglas to walk almost two hours to accept your donation.

4.  In USA, make a direct deposit by mail to MSLO ORPHANAGE FUND, Arvest Bank.  My wife and I oversee this small fund to facilitate Douglas and Damaris Makori running the MSLO Ogembo Christian Orphanage.  Mail completed deposit slip to: Arvest Bank, P.O. Box 11110, Fort Smith, AR  72917. Here is a scan of the deposit slip you may print out and use.  To let us know of the deposit text number 470 970-0077 or Facebook message Bruce Dickey.

5.  Send Cash or Check to:  Bruce Dickey, P.O.Box 795, Russellville, AR  72802.  Yes. some folks do send cash wrapped so it is concealed in the envelope.   I understand too if you prefer to mail your check and have me to deposit to Arvest Bank where the MSLO Orphanage Fund is located.  MSLO Orphanage Fund has a debit card which funds WAVE, as needed, from the bank checking account.  So now you have five ways that may work for you.

*We have found all three funds transfer companies to do a secure and safe job getting funds to help the orphans at MSLO Ogembo Kenya.  Also we have never lost a deposit when mailed in USA to fund MSLO orphanage funds.

Douglas has no transportation, above is a boda boda taxi for $2 food is hauled to the orphanage each week.  Budget on December 2016 is $75 a week.  It was recently raised from $96 weekly to $141.

The Kenyan Government does not get involved assisting the poor of Kenya on a personal level.  The poor are supposed to fend for themselves.  Due to incidence of HIV Aids, Africa in general is experiencing high levels of orphans, some are simply abandoned as well.  Relatives struggling to care for their own often don’t have the resources to care for more.  So we see orphanages across Kenya quite common, the children can appear neglected due to worn out clothes and shoes, yet still being fed well, that is the goal, feeding and safe environment.
